ST JOHN’S CHAPEL RESTORATION APPEAL
St John’s Chapel Needs Our Help
St John’s Chapel Update March 2025
THANK YOU To everyone who has donated to this appeal. We have raised a spectacular £26,184
This has enabled us to apply for Grants. We have secured Grants from the Diocese for some of the works but are still £20,000 short of the total cost. Grants from other agencies have been applied for.
What Have We Done? 1) Removed two of the floor slabs and drilled down to see if there is water under the flooring. Monitored this area during heavy rainfall to ensure this area is not contributing to the damp. 2) Surveyed the abutting walls to assess if the materials used in its construction have contributed to the damp. 3) Continued to ensure the soakaway drainage routes are kept clear of leaves and debris. Thank you, Holy Mowers!
What is next? 1) Drain survey to ensure the water flows away from this area. We have approached a Local Company to do this in conjunction with two other local churches who need surveys. 2) Removal and analysis of the paint from the plaster on the chapel walls.
This is a long-term project, there is no quick fix. It can take up to six years for the walls to dry out completely and we are looking to find the source of the problem rather than just plastering over it.
