Over the last hundred years Christians have been rediscovering the meaning of baptism. Previously it was often treated as a sort of birth rite within a Christian society. Now churches are discovering a new richness in baptism, seeing it as both God's gift and our human response to that gift. It looks forward towards a growth in faith.
