Confirmation – What is it? What is its significance? How can I be confirmed? What preparation is required? If you would like answers to any of these questions, please attend a short Confirmation information meeting at 7.30 pm on 24 July at the Rectory. The Big Brew - churches all over London will be brewing up on 12 July. The Diocese of London is co-ordinating the Big Brew to raise awareness of Fairtrade. The event in Ickenham is from 10.30-12.00 next Saturday 12 July in St Giles'. Come and enjoy a free cup of tea or coffee and taste and see how buying fairtrade products can improve the lives of those who grow them on our behalf.

Mothers’ Union Social Afternoon – to be held on Thursday 10 July at 2pm in the church hall. Guests from the URC Women's fellowship and Over 60's club are also invited. There will be a Raffle, but NO Bring and Buy stall. Please can members bring items for the Country Market stall, which Hillingdon Deanery is manning at the Diocesan Garden Party on 12 July, at Christ the Saviour Ealing. Men’s Breakfast – our friend Revd Mike Bisset, now vicar of Penn and Tylers Green, is coming to speak on “The Entire History of the Bible!” at 8.30am on Saturday 19 July in the URC hall. Do come and bring a friend. Tickets £2 at the door.

Bishop Ramsey Prayer Meeting - if you are interested in getting together with others to pray for Bishop Ramsey School then there is a meeting this Wednesday 9 July in North Harrow. If you would like further info/a lift please contact Juliette Guthrie: jp.guthrie@virgin.net / 01895 622970.

Fun Afternoon and BBQ – this will take place on Saturday 13 September starting at 2.30 pm at the Willow Tree Centre Campsite, Breakspear Rd North. There will be outdoor games, archery and activities for young children. All ages are welcome – there will be time to just relax and chat. Tickets: £4.00 or £2.00 for children aged 10 and under; no charge for under 3s. Tickets will be available after Family Service today and on following Sundays, or via the church office. Please also notify Stephanie in the church office if you require a non-meat option for the barbecue. 

Holiday Club is nearly here! Could you spare an hour to help us to set up? On Saturday 19 July at 10.00am (after the Men’s Breakfast) we shall be getting all our “stuff” down from the loft in the URC. The bigger the chain of helpers, the less time it takes! Also on Sunday 27 July at 12noon (after URC morning service) we need to clear the chairs and other furniture. All help welcome! And finally please start saving clean “rubbish” e.g. cardboard boxes, tubes, egg cartons, plastic tubs and pots, wool, thread, newspapers etc. This year we are having a party theme so trimmings and party “bits” also welcome and we need 20 empty washing up liquid bottles! After Sunday 13 July, you can put them in the porch at St Giles, outside the URC hall door or by the Rectory front porch for collection each day. We also use gallons of squash and eat loads of biscuits! Donations of these would be very helpful during the week (28 July – 1 August). Thank you! Anne Whitlam

Registration for Holiday Club 18 July - registration of all children who wish to join Holiday Club this year will be on Friday July 18 at the URC from 4.30pm to 6pm (or earlier if all places are allocated before 6pm). Do remember that we need a signature from each child’s parent to be able to register him/her, and we still need a few more helpers…..so don’t be shy!

January 2008 newsletter from Jane and Adrian Shutt - Copies of Jane and Adrian’s January email from Kisiizi, Uganda, is available - click HERE for a copy (0.5Mb file - broadband recommended) and will also be in the church porch for all to see. Some reminders

Gift Aid envelopes - please use the yellow envelopes in the pews if you are a tax payer and would like to gift-aid your offertory gift. All sections on the envelope must be completed in order for the church to be able to claim an additional 28p for every £1 you give. Thank you for your support.

Waste Paper and Magazines – a reminder that Christian Aid benefits by £000’s annually from the designated Council bins at St Martin’s Approach car park in Ruislip. Please decide to periodically deposit yours there!

St Paul's Cathedral Passes - St Giles' has four reusable passes that enable free entrance to the cathedral. If you would like to borrow one or more, please contact Brenda Baxter.

Don't forget that we still want your family news to incorporate in the news sheet each week. If you have something you would like to share with us all at St Giles', maybe a special anniversary, family celebration, or other news such as a special achievement, please let Stephanie White have the details by email (office@stgileschurch.co.uk) or phone (the church office details are on the contact page) or in writing via the 'W' pigeonhole or the external mailbox next to the west door.

Mobile Phone Recycling - Please continue to leave any unwanted phones in the box in the porch.

Stewardship Envelopes - a reminder that it would assist the sides people if you could remember to fill in the 'amount' section on the front of the envelope each week before placing in the collection.

Befriending Team - are you interested in becoming a member of the Befriending Team - No rota involved - members of the team assist the Sidesmen and Wardens in welcoming newcomers. Please take an information sheet from the centre of the church about this important role which ensures the welcome in our church is maintained. Please sign the list if you would like to join the team, also stating the service you usually attend.

Calling all First Aiders!  If you hold a current First Aid certificate and would be willing to be called upon if a need arose on a Sunday morning during a service or Junior Church, please speak to either of our Church Wardens – Brenda Baxter (636803) or David Millen (637932).   If willing, your name would go on a list kept by the Church Wardens.  This would not however, involve being on a rota.
